The countdown is on! 60 days to find 100 people who are backing my Kettle Lamp on TheCreator.Me!

You can support me by committing to buy one Kettle Lamp for USD 115. The first series of 100 pieces will only be produced if all 100 pieces are sold.

Or you could simply spread the word about it! That would be extremely helpful as well!

Thanks for all your support!

Thanks everybody who visited my booth at the Eco Design Fair last Saturday. It was a great event and I heard that the fair attracted more than 10’000 visitors! Great organization!

The winner of the Jonas’ Design lucky draw is Daniel Koo. He wins a Window-Blackboard. Congratulations!

Thanks Lynnette Chan for this excellent picture, documenting my circles under my eyes ;-)

7 June 2012

I didn’t update my website for over a month, I apologize for that!

I had a very busy month of May, I participated in many different events and I didn’t find the time to keep my website, Weibo and Facebook updated.

That’s why I’m trying to catch up now. Please keep reading below for all the news about last month.

On April 24 I was speaking at Pecha Kucha Shanghai. I was presenting my work in front of about 400 people who came to the Dutch Design Workspace for this event which was also part of the Dutch Week Shanghai.

On May 5 I participated at the second edition of D.A.F.F., the Design/Art/Fashion Fair at Wharf 1846 on the south bund. It was a super nice day, almost too hot in the afternoon, with plenty of super cool people, many different vendors/exhibitors, nice food and drinks, fashion shows and DJ’s. This time the organizers decided to extend the fair well into the night and it was followed by an after party at the Strictly Designers United space.

In the week after D.A.F.F. we had very special guests in our studio. A production company was shooting part of a new TV series for Hunan TV in our space. This meant that our hole space was turned upside down. It took two days to set up all the props for three long days of shooting the footage before cleaning up the whole mess which took another whole day.

On Mother’s Day, May 13 I was participating in the Sunday Market at Ambassy Club which was organized by THE AGENCY. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very nice and not too many people came to this event.

On May 17 I took part in an audition for TED which was pretty exciting. The TED organizers are currently traveling around the world and make auditions in 14 different cities, Shanghai one of them. They are looking for international speakers for the TED conference in California in February 2013. Every speaker had the chance to present their “Idea worth spreading” within 6 minutes directly to the founder of TED, Chris Anderson and some other core members of the TED team. My talk was titled “Upcycling old Shanghai”. I was told that these talks will be online by the end of June. I’ll keep you posted.....

On the following Sunday, May 20 was TEDxShanghai. TEDx events are independently organized TED conferences all around the globe. I got the chance to exhibit some of my products and promote my business in the entrance hall of Shanghai Concert Hall, where TEDx Shanghai was held. Of course I also had enough time to enjoy many of the excellent talks which were all about the topic “I am Chinese”.

Two announcements regarding my sales channel: C’est La Chine design space in Shanghai has moved out of their space on Shaoxing Lu and is currently looking for a new location. That means that my clocks are currently not available there....

The good news is, I found a distributor in Beijing (or should I say he found me?). Brandnü is a shop in Beijing who is only selling upcycled products (the first shop in mainland China!). Many of these products are produced by rural artisans or by social enterprises and charity projects. Currently I’m having a selection of Biscuit Box Clocks, a Telephone Clock and a Old TV/Digital Picture Frame at Brandnü.

13 June 2012

Wow, what a month. I got a lot of press this month. The studio has been covered in the June issue of That’s Shanghai. Then there is an article about the making of Long Tang Table 3.0 in LAOWAI Shanghai magazine. And last but not least some of my products have been featured in I HOME magazine. Majiang Table, Biscuit Box Bookshelf, Suitcase Boombox and Biscuit Box Clock have been mentioned in the article about Design & Reuse. Check out all these publications in the press section of my website.

26 June 2012

We just started the renovation of our studio/loft. I’m going to have a bigger workshop which is kind of overdue since a long time..... Here a picture of the work in progress.

3 July 2012

Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 4 I’ll present my studio and my work at the Shanghai Hacker Space Xin Che Jian. Start 7pm.

6 August 2012

I’ve been busy with my most exciting design project so far. This time, no upcycling, no repurposing, no reusing. But still, the best product I’ve ever done....

17 August 2012

This picture shows the next generation of UPCYCLERS!

I’ve been invited to the award ceremony of the ECO-ART competition China. I’m also showing some of my pieces in the ECO-ART exhibition which is running for two weeks and showing the competition entries and some other upcycling works.

17 August 2012

Old news but good news!

My talk at TED talent search is online. You can rate it and leave comments until end of the month!

13 September 2012

This Sunday, September 16, there will be a UPcycle exhibition at the BRANDNÜ Shop in Beijing with fashion, furniture, jewelry and other products. Also some of my products are going to be on show and on sale...... If you happen to be in Beijing this weekend, go check it out!

21 September 2012

Tomorrow!

10 October 2012

I’m proud that one of my Biscuit Box Clocks is now part of Fabrica’s Mobile Museum.

The Mobile Museum is a traveling Museum, with contents contributed by people from all over the world. Unlike a conventional Museum the collection is always changing, evolving depending on its location, with every new location dictating a new curatorial theme.

10 October 2012

Thank you Marina Otte for mentioning my design in your blog!

10 October 2012

This Sunday I’m going to have a stall at Central Studios Autumn Fair.

28 October 2012

I’m very happy that the UNGER magazine (Germany) mentioned me in their autumn/winter edition of their magazine in an article about the art and design scene of Shanghai. I’m even called the “Geheim Tipp”, which means the secret tip :-)

20 November 2012

I have two new online distribution channels for selected items.
